Sister Caroline Silvestrini (Sister Marie Anthony) loved all the things that she did as a Grey Nun, as teacher aide, cook and hairdresser. Her specialty in the cooking area was on Thanksgiving and Christmas when she carved the turkey and put it back together – what a surprise for the sisters! Becoming a hairdresser was a life-long dream for her. At her beauty parlor in the Motherhouse, many sisters benefited from her expertise. Caroline loved doing the sisters’ hair and shared many happy moments with them at the same time. She is now retired and enjoying the time for prayer and for listening to her collection of country music, especially that of Hank Williams, Jr.
Of all the blessings that I have received in my 50 years as a Grey Nun, the greatest of these has been a love for prayer. From my earliest years, the Holy Spirit has inspired me to pray with and for others. I have been deeply attracted to remembering God’s presence and my religious life as a Grey Nun has helped me to grow even more in this attraction. The works of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, the Little Flower, and the writings of Sister Faustina about Divine Mercy are inspirations that nourish my spiritual life.
