Sister Constance Marie Welsh loves the earth, and caring for the earth. After many years in elementary education, she became the groundskeeper at the Motherhouse where she was often seen riding a tractor. In this position, she found satisfaction in learning about and utilizing the best ways to nurture and sustain the beauty of the Motherhouse property. Connie came to this love early in life by spending time with her grandfather, who was groundskeeper at the Melrose Motherhouse property. Her early ministry years were in education and for her, Grey Nun Academy was a favorite as the classes were small and there was opportunity to take the students outside for sports and walks to enjoy nature. She also spent several years at St. Norbert’s Parish in Lima, Peru. She is presently semi-retired and continues to enjoy the grounds at the Motherhouse.
My life as a Grey Nun of the Sacred Heart has been a journey through dark and light. After these 60 years, I can say with delight, “I’m glad I made the journey.” This celebration is like getting the gold medal of life and love.
We will be featuring all of our 2014 Jubilarians prior to the Congregational Jubilee celebration May 17 in Yardley, PA. Collectively these 15 women have served God and His People for 900 years! God Bless them and their families for the gift of their generous hearts and lives.
