Sister Nancy Drigan 60th Jubilee

Written on: May 6, 2014

Sister Nancy DriganSister Nancy Drigan (Sister Charles Raphael) met the Grey Nuns at St. Canicus School in the upstate Pennsylvania town of Mahanoy City. Nancy was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and with her friend, Sister Constance Marie, provided entertainment for many sisters during summer school session at D’Youville College. Nancy was a life-long educator, both in elementary and high school. Many of her years in ministry were spent at Mother of Divine Providence School in King of Prussia, PA. Students at Seton Keough High School in Baltimore, MD, Holy Angels Academy, Buffalo, NY and St. Mary’s Academy, Ogdensburg, NY, also benefited from Nancy’s dedication and warm spirit.  Nancy spent several summers in Cape May, NJ, with her friend, Sister Barbara Tucker, hosting a vacation house for Grey Nuns and other sisters.  In her retirement years, she volunteers her service to the elderly in a senior residence in Baltimore, MD.

I was acquainted with three different orders of sisters but found that the Grey Nuns were the most hospitable and approachable. I felt their warm welcome and knew that I belonged with the Grey Nuns.  In all my missions, I was blessed with trustworthy women as superiors and principals who encouraged me to use my talents for others.  My teaching days are long past and now I am fortunate to live with and volunteer my help with the elderly and handicapped. As I celebrate these 60 years, I thank God for the gift of each new day and try my best to emulate St. Marguerite d’Youville, our foundress, who served all in need no matter how great, little or unusual the need.

We will be featuring all of our 2014 Jubilarians prior to the Congregational Jubilee celebration  May 17 in  Yardley, PA. Collectively these 15 women have served God and His People for 900 years! God Bless them and their families for the gift of their generous hearts and lives.
