Sister Patricia Kelly (Sister Marie Renee) met the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart at Little Flower High School in Philadelphia. In the early years of her religious life, Pat taught at several Grey Nun schools before responding to a call from the congregation to join our sisters in Lima, Peru where she was principal, teacher and pastoral worker. Her 15 years there were an experience that will remain in her heart forever. She found that living in a new culture, speaking a new language was an enriching and life changing experience for her. For her, it was a gift to be part of a living, vibrant community and sharing their stories, struggles, dreams and hopes and their love of music and dance. Pat says of that time, “You never come all the way back from Peru.” Her time in Peru influenced her work as a social worker for Catholic Social Services in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia which is her present ministry.
My life as a Grey Nun is a constant revelation of God’s love for me. My life has been full of joy, happiness and wonder. As a daughter of St. Marguerite d’Youville, I have been able to serve God’s people in ways I could never imagine. I look forward to this Jubilee Celebration to thank God for so many blessings. I am grateful for the opportunity to live and work as a Grey Nun and to share in the life of so many wonderful Sisters who have accompanied me with love and support over 60 years. These years are an incredible and sacred journey of faith, hope and love. I have been graced with loyal friends, good health, opportunities for spiritual growth and a new reverence for the earth and all of God’s creation.
