United Nations Asylum Trends

Asylum trends were recently published by the UNHRC (United Nations Human Rights Council) for the first half of 2014. Here are some highlights:

• Asylum applications are up worldwide by 24% compared to the same time period in 2013
• In North America, asylum applications increased by 27% compared to the corresponding time frame in 2013
• Germany received the most asylum applications of all industrialized nations; the United States was second overall
