The first week of March was National Catholic Sisters Week. On Saturday March 7, our annual Women’s Retreat was titled God’s Call and Our Response. Sisters Eileen White and Maureen Quigley explored the biblical history of God’s call. Sister Barbara Harrington shared insights into recent statements and writings of Pope Francis and Maryellen Glackin brought these three aspects together through the story of her own call with the reminder that we are each called through the gift of our Baptism. After lunch, Sister Jean Liston shared her thoughts about how St. Marguerite lived out her call and ways Marguerite continues to be an inspiration for so many.
Always well attended, the retreat drew about 90 women, sisters, Associates, and friends old and new. It is so wonderful to have this opportunity to reconnect through our common experience as women.
On Sunday, Sister Julia delivered a post-gospel message based on the Year of Consecrated Life as a call to religious to remember and help the world celebrate the “JOY” of the Gospel—that JOY flowing from Jesus’ message that God loves each one of us unconditionally. After Liturgy, our visitors were welcomed to stay for coffee and doughnuts, and many enjoyed a few minutes of conversation with the Sisters and each other!
The week ended with a celebration of the nine Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart and nine Sisters from other Congregations living at St. Joseph’s Manor. The poster (below) says it all– their lives have been lived in service and blessing to so many! Daily Mass was offered in their honor. After Mass, the Sisters, members of the various congregations, as well as Sisters working at St. Joseph’s were treated to a cake and ice cream social. Thank you to Sister Mary Lee Farrell who has been tireless in her efforts to draw attention to Consecrated Life through these and other special events. View pictures here
