Record Clothing Collection!

Recently, the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart were part of a larger effort to assist needy residents in Trenton, NJ. For a few years there has been a clothing collection box next to our adjoining school, Grey Nun Academy. However, this past November a special challenge was issued: to break a Guinness World Record for clothing collection in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Rescue Mission of Trenton!

The GUINNESS WORLD RECORD was smashed! They now hold the title for the largest collection of clothing for recycle/donation -a record that has never been broken in the United States! With the aid of 150 Champion organizations and individuals, the Mission broke the record, bringing in 179,550 items of clothing -that’s almost 90,000 pounds of clothes! An extraordinary feat!

Not only was the Mission aided in breaking a Guinness World Records title, more importantly, the most vulnerable in Trenton were helped. Because of these efforts, the Mission will be able to provide necessary clothing items  and other resources to those in need in their community and continue to provide comfort to each and every individual who comes through their doors.

Coordinating this monumental effort was a lot of hard work by all involved, but it was extremely heartwarming and enlightening to see organizations and communities from all over the state -and across state lines – join together for a common cause.

The Guinness World Records effort has come to an end, but the work of the Mission, and other organizations like it, is never over! As the winter months are approaching, the Mission is in dire need of hygiene kits for the men and women who come to the Emergency Shelter. The Rescue Mission aims to provide essentials such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo and conditioner to the less fortunate members of our community.
