Shelter from the Cold
Written on: January 6, 2016
Bobbie Burkhart is the Donations Chairperson at Advocates for Homeless and Those in Need (AHTN). She contacted us to share this story and make a plea for volunteers:
Homeless Take Shelter as Temperatures Plummet published by the Bucks County Courier Times. Ms Burkhart is a volunteer and is familiar with some of the people named in the article:
I know the names of the homeless in the photos. I’ve spoken to Priscilla, the woman they interviewed in the article. One of our guests the other night was a pregnant woman. A few of our guests arrive in wheelchairs.
If you, or anyone you know, is thinking about doing volunteer work please check out AHTN’s website:
www.ahtn.org. By clicking on Donations, you can get in touch with Ms Burkhart through her e-mail.
Every time we provide temporary shelter for the homeless at Code Blue it requires 14 volunteers to be fully staffed. If we are not fully staffed we cannot offer the homeless shelter on these nights when the cold is life-threatening. Please share this with anyone you know who has recently retired or anyone you know who is considering volunteering this winter. Volunteering is addictive. The more you do the more you want to do.
We know, Bobbie! One of our Sisters has been helping with Code Blue for awhile now. Read her story here.
If you decide to volunteer, we’d love to hear about your experience!
