The Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart would like to congratulate Monsignor George A. Majoros, the other priests and laity who have taken on this special role during the Jubilee Year of Mercy. May the healing touch of Jesus be experienced by many through their generosity of spirit.
POPE FRANCIS COMMISSIONS PHILADELPHIA PRIEST AS MISSIONARY OF MERCY
They will be missionaries of mercy because they will be facilitators of a truly human encounter, a source of liberation, rich with responsibility for overcoming obstacles and taking up the new life of baptism again. They will be led in their mission by the words of the apostle, ‘For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy upon all’ (Romans 11: 32).”~Pope Francis
In Rome on Ash Wednesday, February 10, 2016, Pope Francis commissioned Reverend Monsignor George A. Majoros, Parochial Vicar of Sacred Heart Parish in Bridgeport (Montgomery County) as a Missionary of Mercy. During the ceremony, Monsignor Majoros was part of a select international group of over 1,000 priests who are being sent forth by the Vatican to serve as Missionaries of Mercy in (Arch)Dioceses around the world.
These Missionaries of Mercy are available, upon invitation, to preach about the infinite mercy of God during the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, previously called for by the Holy Father, and to hear confessions. They have also been given the authority of the Holy Father to absolve in his name certain sins that are ordinarily only forgiven by the Pope. These specific types of sins are commonly known as sins “reserved to the Holy See.”
Monsignor Majoros will be serving in this capacity throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and can be invited to other dioceses by their respective bishop during the Jubilee Year of Mercy, which ends on November 20, 2016.
He was ordained to the Priesthood in May of 1979 by John Cardinal Krol. He was named Chaplain to His Holiness with the title of Monsignor by Pope Benedict XVI in October of 2009. Over the past 37 years, Monsignor Majoros has served in numerous parishes and schools in the City of Philadelphia as well as Bucks, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties.
