The streets of New York, particularly Jackson Heights, were home to Sister Kathleen Early (Sister Mary Rose). When she entered the Grey Nuns in 1946, she joined many of her friends from the neighborhood near Blessed Sacrament Parish who preceded her. Although she was an only child, her parents supported this decision in her young life. After a full life as an educator, many of which were spent at St. Norbert’s School in Paoli, Pennsylvania, she turned her hand to computer technology, taught elementary school computer classes and assisted many sisters at the Motherhouse with her computer skills. She is currently a resident of St. Joseph’s Manor in Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania, where she shares meals with the other residents and despite her diminished sight, enjoys her favorite television programs.
My life has been beautiful in many ways. After high school, I worked for four years before entering the Grey Nuns, a decision I have never regretted. I am thankful for God’s continuing presence in my life and for the graces of these 70 years as a religious. My life has been blessed by many friends, by my Grey Nun sisters and by my cousins who made me a part of their family and whose company I still enjoy.
Congratulations Sister Kathleen. I still remember your 7th grade class where I thought you were a progressive teacher and glad to see you haven’t changed. I will never forget the lesson on Myths. You were one of my favorite teachers. God Bless you always.

Sr. Kathleen, Special congratulations on your Jubilee and your many years of service and love for the people you served. I know that God is smiling down on you.
I recall the fun times we had when you visited at Immaculate Conception in Eden. Great memories.
Sending you love and remembrance in my thoughts and prayers.

I remember your mother and father’s pride that their daughter was a GNSH. You and all the Jackson Heights sisters so generously shared your lives with young people, showing us how loving God is. Here’s to many more years!
Dear Sister Kathleen, I want to send my special congratulation wishes to you on our 70th jubilee celebration. I miss being with you on your visits and all the food times we shared together.
