A plane crash changed her mind

Written on: November 4, 2016

Sister Frances Whitman was educated by the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart in Atlanta. Like most good Catholic school girls of her age she thought about a vocation but didn’t move on it.

When Frances was in her 30s, she was scheduled to go on a trip to Paris but couldn’t meet her plane because she became ill. The plane Francis was supposed to travel on crashed and all aboard were killed.

For Frances, the fact that her life was spared by what seemed like complete coincidence became a life-changing event. She felt that God had spared her life for a reason.  She thought more seriously about her life and its purpose and realized she might have a call to religious life.
