GNSHappenings- January 2017

Written on: January 30, 2017

Pictured above are five Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart from Holy Redeemer Lafayette participating in the “Home Cook Heroes” program at Gift of Life Family House.  As many of you know, Sister Joan Marie McCann has been a volunteer driver there for many years.

Sisters Josephine Patti, Jean Scharf, Marie Cecile Egan, Maureen O’Hara, and Joan Marie McCann brought a delicious meal to the families and staff.

Sisters Maureen and Jo made chili, cornbread and corn muffins. Sisters Joan Marie and Marie Cecile made a tossed salad and fruit salad while Sister Jean was the very valuable helper, can-opener and cleaner-upper! According to Sister Jo Patti,

“We cooked some of the food on Monday and then went to the Gift Of Life Family Home on Tuesday, January 3, where we did the final preparation and served the meal. We prepared enough for 45-50 people – plus staff on duty and ourselves.  They have a huge kitchen with 4 stoves and sinks and 3 lovely islands to work at with ease and space.”

Along with the photo of the evening above, there was a note that read, in part,

Your willingness to invest time and effort to ensure a home-cooked meal for our guests demonstrates your spirit of generosity and belief in the important mission of the Family House. Our guests are so very grateful to you for providing a delicious dinner, which offered them the opportunity to eat, spend time with others, and find comfort in a pleasant setting. You may never know how much your part in the Home Cook Heroes program means to our guests, but I can assure you, they are very appreciative.

As a community supported non-profit organization, the Family House depends upon the kindness of volunteers to help carry out their mission.  If you are interested in becoming involved with the program, visit their website at www.GiftofLifeFamilyHouse.org
