GNSHappenings- March 2017

Written on: March 31, 2017

Open the Eyes and Ears of My Heart,  was the theme for the annual day of reflection and prayer offered at D’Youville College by the local GNSH.

  • Breathing prayer,
  • Centering prayer,
  • Meditative walking,
  • Finding God in the ordinary,
  • The prayer of the Loving Glance.

These were the prayer opportunities offered to the 40 + participants of Buffalo’s annual “Friends of the Grey Nuns Retreat” at D’Youville College on March 4th.

In the words of one grateful participant:

I am thrilled to learn that I can pray in such different ways.”

A final exercise in Mandala art and a presentation on “Balancing Our Lives” helped round out this full day of prayer-learning and prayer-doing.

Plaza Sisters– Sister Rita Margraff

The Social Club at the Plaza (where 11 Grey Nuns live) sponsored a presentation by the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart called “Chatting with the Sisters.”

Using slides and a script created by Sister Patricia Geary for a similar presentation at Holy Redeemer Lafayette, Sister Rita Margraff and Sister Ceil Cosgrove presented the story of St. Marguerite, the story of the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart and some interesting facts about religious life.  Several of the other sisters present spoke of their life of ministry as G.N.S.H.

The men and women of the Social Club were very interested to learn of the Sister-residents who had come to live with them at The Plaza.  They expressed their enthusiasm by the many questions that they asked.

The evening closed with refreshments and conversation.

A Buffalo Suggestion

Most of us are familiar with Genesee Orleans Ministry of Concern, Inc. because of Sister Marian Adrian’s long service there. In 2018, the agency will  be celebrating 50 years of service in the two counties. The ministry has activated an ambitious fund raiser in Sister’s honor, called Sister Marian’s Purse. We bring this to your attention as a worthy recipient for your Lenten almsgiving.

The address for donations is : Genesee Ministry of Concern, 121 N. Main St. #311, Albion, NY 14411.

Ongoing:

  • Anne Boyer is collecting Labels for Education.
  • The plastic bag collection is ended. Many local stores offer bins to recycle plastic bags.
  • Sr. Nancy Kaczmarek : D’Youville College is looking for memorabilia to donate to the archives collection at D’Youville. Items such as copies of D’Mensions, college catalogs, charms from Moving-Up Days and paperweights celebrating years of service. Nancy’s office number is: 716-829-8155.
