Sister Carol Bartol- 60th Jubilee

Written on: April 7, 2017

Sister Carol Bartol croppedSister Carol Bartol (Sister Mary of the Visitation) began her teaching career in Buffalo, New York. From there, she went on to teach in various schools: Melrose Academy in Philadelphia, Immaculate Conception in Eden, New York, before heading to Atlanta, Georgia, where she tutored children with learning and emotional disabilities.

She has served as manager of a personal care home for the elderly, and coordinator of a program to recycle useable medical supplies and equipment to needy parts of the U. S. and the world. Carol served many years in Kodiak, Alaska, where she managed a thrift shop and taught English as a Second Language.

When the sisters began to move from the Motherhouse to Holy Redeemer Lafayette, Carol coordinated much of the buying of household supplies. She now lives there with the many sisters whom she helped settle in their new homes.

I look forward to my Jubilee celebration of 60 years because it is a special time to re-visit and remember what led to my vocation and all the ministries that I’ve been so blessed to engage in as a Grey Nun of the Sacred Heart. In Eden, New York, I enjoyed the children I taught and the western New York farm country. As director of a personal care home, I loved the residents, admiring them for what I learned of their lives and the dignity they maintained in their frailty. My years of ministry have been varied and stretching. I have grown through them and at this Jubilee time, celebrate my Grey Nun years as great blessings.
