From May 13-17, Matt Newsome, Campus Minister, Western Carolina University, accompanied students from a dozen college campuses located in the Diocese of Charlotte, North Carolina on a three-day long Evangelization Training Camp (ETC), put on by The Evangelical Catholic. The group began in Madison, WI and one of their specialties is campus ministry. Their model, which we strive to emulate on our campuses, is to teach students how to be disciples of Jesus Christ and equip them to evangelize their peers on campus. I’m happy to report that the ETC went very well. The students (and campus ministers) learned much about intentional discipleship and authentic evangelization. There were opportunities for prayer and fellowship. We left with a renewed zeal for campus ministry which we hope will bear much fruit in the coming fall semester and beyond. I’d like to thank the students who attended the ETC for their time and enthusiasm, and thank you for your prayers during our time there!
This training was made possible by the Lilly Foundation Grant Sister Eileen Spanier secured for Campus Ministry last year. This training was part of the curriculum devised for the Disciples in Mission program she developed to prepare interested students in Catholic leadership on campus and beyond.
Congratulations Eileen! This sounds like a super program and I’m so glad you are involved. Blessings! Dawn
