Novena to the Sacred Heart

In preparation for the celebration of the Feast of the Sacred Heart, we invite you to pray this Novena along with the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, our Associates and Colleagues. The Novena (nine days) begins on June 15 and concludes on the Feast Day which is June 23.

The relevance of this feast to the times in which we live may be understood from many perspectives. Just one we’d like to offer is a quote from The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry,

“It is only with the heart that one sees rightly.”

We spend a lifetime trying to integrate head and heart to bring harmony and balance into our lives. Today’s multiple social media sources give us a pretty good picture of how far we still have to go before we are able to respond to global violence by seeing rightly, seeing with the Heart of Christ.

As an alternative to the full Sacred Heart Novena prayer, you may wish to use the following, which is a prayer that the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart have been praying for quite some time.

“Heart of Jesus, you are patient and rich in mercy, teach us to be your compassion for our needy world and each other.”
