In September, 2017 The Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, along with many other organizations, signed the letter from the Alliance to End Slavery and Trafficking (ATEST). The letter was addressed to Director Mulvaney of the Office of Management and Budget. The letter requested that Director Mulvaney advise President Trump to request funds in the fiscal year 2019 (FY19) budget to combat human trafficking and forced labor in accordance with the Trafficking Victims Protection Re-authorization Act of 2013.
Human trafficking is a $150 billion industry.
Current U.S. Government funding is insufficient to fight this crime and to meet the needs of victims and survivors. Federal agencies must be given the resources to combat this horrific crime if we are to better prevent future exploitation and identify victims earlier.
