Grey Nun Associates from the Philadelphia area did what they have been feeling they needed to do for quite some time – share a day in prayer and dialogue around questions such as “Why be a Grey Nun Associate?” and “What does being an Associate look and feel like in 2018?” An invitation to share in the day was also extended to Sisters so that they could enrich the dialogue by sharing what the Associates mean to the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart.
So, on May 12, a group of 15 Associates and 6 Sisters met in the Ember Room at Spark!, formerly the Holy Redeemer Provincialate, to once again discover their answer to those questions.
To begin, the participants were led in an ice breaker called “Personal Best” to help them let go of anything that may be a source of distraction. This was followed by viewing the latest video on Marguerite d’Youville which could be thought of as the centerpiece of the day. It reignited the fire of everyone’s love for St. Marguerite and provided much thought for fruitful dialogue for the rest of the day and beyond.
Just as the Associates had been introduced to the directive statement from Chapter 2013, so too, were they introduced to Chapter 2018’s reaffirmation of that call to risk relational newness with God, each other, the Church and the world. They reflected and dialogued on what that can mean for Grey Nun Associates and how to intentionally find ways to pass on St. Marguerite’s charism so that it can live on and be life giving beyond our life span.
A delicious continental breakfast and lunch provided by Constant Craving, Inc. Caterers added a special treat to the day.
We know that one of the real marks of a successful event is enthusiasm to schedule another such event. That is what will happen at the Associates next meeting!
