This ‘ask to act’ is sent from Polaris, a leader in the global fight to eradicate modern slavery. Probably most are familiar with the organization. Please consider taking this action and passing it on to any others who may want to help. As always the request for donations is not required to act. Thank you for seeking justice!
Polaris recently released a report based on data from the National Human Trafficking Hotline which identified some 800 individual victims of human trafficking from January 1, 2015 – December 31, 2017 who were here and working under temporary work visas. Clearly, the temporary work visa system is badly broken. The dysfunction is due in part to the patchwork nature of regulation and a lack of transparency and accountability.
The Visa Transparency Anti-Trafficking Act would require that the federal government keep organized records on temporary visa holders and their employers and make the information publicly available. This helps ensure that workers won’t fall through the cracks, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation by traffickers.
Please urge your members of Congress to support this vital bill.
Founded in 2002, Polaris is named for the North Star, which people held in slavery in the United States used as a guide to navigate their way toward freedom. Today they are filling in the roadmap for that journey and lighting the path ahead. We urge your support of this worthwhile organization.
