“The best guarantee that a thing should happen is that it appears to us as vitally necessary.” Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
This quotation can be applied to the reason we undertake ministries. Ministries are, simply put, responses to needs, often quite vital at the time the ministry is initiated. Another quotation of Teilhard, “It is our duty to proceed as though the limits of our abilities do not exist” nicely mirrors our foundress’ way of ministry, though St. Marguerite put it this way, “We never refuse to serve.”
In our time, it has become “vitally necessary” to recognize the needs of our common home and to respond via ministry. Every person on earth can respond in some way. To be true to our founding spirit, we ourselves cannot refuse to do what each is capable of doing.
While many reading this are already responding to the needs of our Earth, the Grey Nun Earth Committee is recommending the attached “Living a Laudato Si Lent” as a simple way to launch a daily environmental ministry during the up-coming Lenten season.
