The Sisters living at the Plaza gather periodically to celebrate feast days and holidays. In March, the Plaza Sisters had a St Patrick’s Day party, hosted by Sr. Bridget Mary Connor and cooked by Sr. Denise Roche. The party included a prayer service; some delicious corned beef with cabbage, and scones; a sing along, and a visit from a very special Leprechaun! (Kudos to Sr. John Helen Main!)
Happy Birthday to our Sisters who celebrated birthdays this month: Sisters Helen Martin, Jean Scharf, Patricia Eileen McKeon, Kate Woody, Mary Courts, Marie Cecile Egan and Marlene Butler
May the year ahead hold many blessings for each of you!

Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart gather on the last Saturday of each month. There is a time for prayer, for any Congregational updates, and then a discussion of important topics. Topics are suggested by a Sister who then acts as moderator and, if needed, provides materials to those who choose that discussion topic. Topics include issues of social justice, spirituality, contemporary topics in the Church or world. Plaza Sisters have also begun to attend. The sessions are coordinated by Srs. Patricia Geary and Jean Liston, and last about 45 minutes. This effort came directly from the Sisters desiring a deeper way to connect with each other.
Throughout Lent we are posting to Social Media the prayer intentions for each day from LIVING A LAUDATO SI’ LENT These posts are supplementing the prayers themselves and providing a moment of reflection as people scroll through their newsfeed.
We are also grateful to the Sisters who agreed to write a reflection for one of the Sundays of Lent, as well as during the Easter Season. We have over 200 people who receive these directly in their email each Wednesday. If you haven’t checked, the comments on the blog posts have been numerous and very inspirational in their own way. Here is the latest, with a link to the three prior Lenten Reflection March 30-31
As we round the corner into April and a late month celebration of Easter, we hope your Lent has been a time of renewal and prayer. Forty days can go so fast, and yet it can also be a challenge to keep up that spirit of preparation and sacrifice. If you need some inspiration our Lenten posts are all available on our Flickr Page– which you can access directly from the home page of our website!
We wish you many blessings as Lent continues, and as we await the holiest time of our Liturgical Year with hearts and minds renewed and filled with Hope!
For the 14th year Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart and Friends offered a Lenten day of prayer on Saturday, March 23, at D’Youville College, Buffalo, New York. About forty women, including a number of Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, Sisters from other Congregations, and two brave men gathered to pray and ponder the theme: Renewable Energy: Fostering Faith and Hope. The retreat team chose the theme in response to the current abuse crisis in the Church, and the need to ask the Holy Spirit to recharge our spiritual energies and give us courage to go on. The offerings included spiritual talks, quiet time for prayer and pondering, journaling, small-group sharing, some physical movement exercise, and adoration in the chapel. Many participants expressed gratitude for this annual opportunity for spiritual enrichment.

GNSH Earth Committee: Earth Day Observance- Submitted by: Sr. Barbara Harrington
This year, Earth Day happens to fall on Easter Monday. We have been encouraged to choose a different day to observe Earth Day. With this in mind, we have selected the following:
* The Lafayette Monthly meeting on April 27th will host the celebration for Grey Nuns and Associates in Philadelphia.
* In Buffalo, the celebration will take place on April 28th at Liberty Park Community Center, in Cheektowaga.
The program has been planned by the Congregational Earth Committee. More information will be forthcoming.
Buffalo Associates: Submitted by Mary Jane Key
The Buffalo Associates, led by their Convener, Mary Jane Key, GNSHA, meet monthly along with several Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart. Over the past several months, new people have been attending and are learning and growing in the spirituality and charism of St. Marguerite d’Youville.
Associate gatherings begin with socializing, which allows people to re-connect and get better acquainted. Prayer follows, and is based on a variety of relevant sources such as Woven Together; The Spiritual Portrait of Saint Marguerite d’Youville, by Estelle Mitchell, SGM; and GNSH Facebook and website posts. Reflection and contemplative prayer are part of this, as well as sharing reflections on Mother d’Youville. The prayer experience reinforces that the Associates share in Grey Nun heritage and traditions.
Gatherings conclude with informal news or updates for the whole group, requests for prayers and announcements of upcoming events that the Associates might be interested in.
Annually, Associates join with Sisters and friends at the Buffalo area retreat day in March and the celebrations of the Feast of the Sacred Heart and St. Marguerite’s feast day. The Associates renew their commitments each year at the Mass celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart in June.
Our next project is planning service or advocacy activities that we can do together. Each of the Sisters and Associates is involved in service, but we would like to do something where we work on the same project together.
