God Has Crowned the Years With Blessings

Written on: May 31, 2019

Even a day of rain could not dampen the joy of those family members and friends who came to St. Christopher Church in Philadelphia to celebrate with our sister Jubilarians: 75 Years: Sister Dorothy Dunn; 70 Years:  Sister Frances William Avery and Sister Sally White; 60 Years:  Sister Patricia Geary.

As Sister Denise Roche, GNSH President, remarked at the liturgy, this year’s Jubilarians have been faithful as women religious for a total of 350 years. In lieu of gifts, the Sisters requested donations to Mother of Mercy House in the form of non-perishable food items. Mother of Mercy House is located in the area of K&A (Kensington and Allegheny Avenues) in one of the poorest sections of Philadelphia. Several Grey Nun Associates coordinated collecting and delivering these gifts, the amount of which far exceeded their expectations. Learn more about Mother of Mercy House here.

Following liturgy, celebrated by Father Chris Walsh, cousin of Sister Patricia Geary, all enjoyed a festive meal and time to share memories.

Although Sister Ann Bernadette Harron (75 years) was not able to celebrate at St. Christopher’s with the other Jubilarians, she was remembered for her faithful love and service  as a Grey Nun of the Sacred Heart.  A Mass for her Jubilee intentions will be held on June 17 at St. Joseph’s Manor.

Thank you Sisters, for your combined 350 Years of  fidelity to your vows, your service and prayerfulness!

Additional pictures of the Mass and reception afterwards are available on our Flickr page.

    Congratulations, Sr. Ann Bernadette!
You taught me in that marvelous 7&8th Grade Class in Melrose in that old Grey Stone building at the top of the driveway. You were the best teacher I ever had. I still remember our Poetry Classes and our good discussions about National Affairs. It was a wonderful time.. And I remember how warmly you welcomed me to Melrose on my first day. it was all so new to me. Our Religion classes have stayed with me all my life. God bless you. I still think of you often.
