Catholic Action– Newark, NJ

Written on: October 1, 2019

Early in the morning on September 4, Sisters Diane Bardol, Bridget Connor and Mary Salvadore set out for Newark, NJ. They were heading to a Catholic Action to End Child Detention organized in the Archdiocese of Newark and held at St. Mary’s Church which was about a mile walk to the Federal ICE Office in Newark.

At St. Mary’s there was a prayer service similar to the one that took place in Washington, DC earlier this summer, focused on the stories of detained children and reminders of the children who died in custody, many of whom were separated from their parents.

The Archbishop of Newark, Cardinal Joseph Tobin accompanied the participants at the prayer service and on the walk.

Thank you, Sisters, for representing the GNSH stance that this practice of detaining children is inhumane.

You can read an observation about the experience, written by Sr. Diane Bardol, here.
