Visit to D’Youville Place
After the Gala for Marguerite’s Place, the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart were invited to meet and enjoy lunch with the Montreal Grey Nuns (SGM) at D’Youville Place in Lexington, Massachusetts. Formerly their convent and provincial offices, this is now an assisted living residence and memory care facility, and part of Covenant Health System. View Photos here
Gerard Place Honors Sr. Denise Roche
Congratulations to Sr. Denise Roche, who was honored as “Community Leader of the Year” at the Gerard Place Annual Awards Dinner on October 10. Founded and sponsored by 12 congregations of Women Religious in the Diocese of Buffalo in 2000, Gerard Place, by providing housing and supportive programs for homeless, single-parent families, works to improve the lives of people striving to break the cycle of poverty. Sr. Eileen White Honored
Sr. Eileen White was honored for her 9 years of ministry at Dawn’s Place. The Gala celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Dawn’s Place was held Saturday evening, October 5. Sr. Terry Shields, MSHR, presented Sr. Eileen with the award, and had these kind words to say, “she was known to be a good listener with a compassionate heart.” The Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart were also thanked for supporting Eileen throughout her years of ministry with women who had been victims of human trafficking. Circle the City
Circle the City is a meditative time of prayer that strives to send out into the world a feeling of peace and harmony. For the past 4 years, our Sisters and others at Holy Redeemer Lafayette and the Magnificat have participated. People gathered across the United States, and the world, in solidarity with this effort. Given where our Sisters live, we aren’t able to invite the public in, but everyone at both places is welcomed to participate. Thank you to Srs. Anne Boyer and Mary Elizabeth Looby for leading the prayer, and Joan Maher for promoting the program at HR Lafayette. Thanks also to Jane Selinske for coordinating the program at Magnificat. Pets at ARTIS
They were putting on the dogs at the Artis pet Halloween Party. Sr. Joan Daly– who loves dogs– got right down with them, while Sr. Kay Purser looks on happily from a safe distance!
Sock Collection Success!
Thank you to our many partners and sock angels who collected socks and donations for the Joy of Sox once again this year! We have well over 1000 pairs of socks and checks totaling $145. Special thanks to our friends at Holy Redeemer Lafayette, Redeemer Village, ReMax 2000 and St. Andrew’s Parish! (and our “counters” Bob, Debbie, and Sharon and Rich!)
Communicators for Women Religious Annual Conference
Our own Eileen Dickerson represented the GNSH at the conference of Communicators for Women Religious (CWR) which was held this year in Mesa, Arizona. She is seen here, second from right on the outing which took the group into the desert for some local flavor. CWR’s members comprise a network of personnel who work in the service of congregations of religious women. The mission of CWR is to enhance the image and advance the mission of Catholic sisters. A highlight of the conference was a talk by Sr. Joan Chittister. O.S.B., reminding each person of their moral and spiritual responsibility to take actions to make the world a better place.
