Melrose Academy High School founded in 1921 by the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart held an Alumnae reunion on October 12. Over 200 Women attended. Anne Marie Goelz Monaghan, Class of 1949 was honored on her 70th anniversary of graduation. Several former teachers attended including Sisters Rita Margraff, Mary Lee Farrell, Maureen Quigley, Mary Elizabeth Looby, Nancy Kaczmarek and Julie Maher. The writer of this piece remembered her former students as lovely, beautiful young ladies. Now they appeared to be made up for a play about older women. Of course she can only imagine what they thought about her appearance.
Melrose Academy was never a large school in population. It truly was a place where everybody knew your name. The large gathering was a surprise and a happy success. At the close of the time together, all joined in singing the Alma Mater:
“Dear Melrose Days of happy work and play. May we always walk the loyal Melrose way.”
So sorry I missed the reunion. I certainly would enjoy seeing former students, teachers, and friends when another one is planned.
Melrose Academy was truly a special school. I cherish my years teaching high school Language Arts and as a yearbook advisor during the early ’80s, surrounded by students who enjoyed learning, a supportive staff, and caring parents; I was saddened when it closed. So glad to learn that reunions occur.

It was a gift to see so many alumnae at our reunion. I call it a gift because it happened on my birthday. All you gals looked GREAT!!! Melrose was such a special place. I see some of you very seldom yet when I do see you, it’s like we never parted. Many thanks to Marilyn and all the others who made this happen.
It was truly joyful to see our Melrose family. Glad to see the sisters who attended, old friends and make new acquaintances.
It was indeed wonderful seeing all my former classmates and sr Maureen Quigley. Sister, you haven’t changed much. Your smiling cheerful face that welcomed us to class each day has maintained its ability to inspire. Thank you for those years you sacrificed for us girls.
