The GNSH Plaza Sisters had a St.Patrick/St. Joseph get together on Sunday, March 15th, before everything shut down.
Sr. John Helen sang “The Same Old Shillelagh Me Father Brought from Ireland” and we all joined in with her, though she was the only one in costume for it– as you can see here! Then, all joined Sr. Eileen White in singing “The Whistling Gypsy,” and then all sang several other Irish tunes. There didn’t seem to be any for St. Joseph-suggestions welcome for next year!
Sr. Denise Roche cooked a genuine corned beef and cabbage dinner and Sr. Barbara Schiavoni made scones.
Sister Helen Martin celebrated her 90th Birthday on March 5. Maureen Goodall and Sr. Denise Roche are pictured here celebrating with her! Many blessings, Sister!
Condolence Message
We ask your prayers for the repose of the soul of Tom King, husband of Irene King, Philadelphia Area Associate who died of complications from COVID-19.
Following a bout of pneumonia in December, Tom was moved from the hospital to a rehab facility. To avoid COVID-19, the family asked for Tom to be discharged from the facility. However, two days after he came home, he had to be hospitalized with symptoms of COVID -19, after having already contracted the virus at the facility. He died shortly after.
Irene and family please be assured of our prayers for all of you and for the repose of Tom’s soul.
We recently learned of a number of efforts taking place at D’Youville College to care for the spirits of the students during the pandemic. From grab and go cookies with encouraging messages, to special postings of spiritual resources, online articles, reflections and inspiration, and streaming prayer services.
Sr. Julia reached out to see if the GNSH could help in any way and a few Sisters were invited to video some of the “Encouragement messages” that were sent out.
It’s heartwarming to hear of how many ways the students are being spiritually supported at D’Youville, and that we had a part to play in these positive actions!
Liturgical Resources for Holy Week and beyond
Although we are unable to attend Mass together, many parishes are livestreaming the Mass, or recording it for you to watch. Archbishop Nelson Perez is celebrating Mass at the cathedral. Click here for other options.
Emmaus Productions is providing resources for parishes and families to use during Holy Week. Follow this link to view what is offered. EMMAUS PRODUCTIONS.
Census 2020 Reminder
Thank you to all who completed their 2020 Census form online. If you haven’t completed your form, we hope you will do so soon! Being counted is extremely important because those numbers impact voting districts and distribution of federal funding for infrastructure projects.
Happy Birthday to our Sisters and staff who will celebrate their special day in April:
Sr. Mary Karen Kelly (10); Sr. Cecelia Cosgrove(14); Chris Domzalski (18); Sr. Maureen O’Hara (22); Sr. Mary Elizabeth Looby (26); Sr. Kay Purser (30); Maureen Goodall (30).
May the year ahead hold many blessings for each of you!
