Action Alert: Upcoming Legislation Aids Dreamers

Written on: March 16, 2021

Please consider taking this action and share widely. Members of Congress need to hear from all of us! Thanks for whatever you can do.  Sister Diane Bardol, GNSH

The House is expected to vote on two critical immigration bills this week: the Dream and Promise Act (H.R.6) and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act (H.R. 1537). These bills are an important step towards our ultimate goal of creating a pathway to citizenship for all 11 million undocumented immigrants; a goal which the majority of the American people support!

The Dream and Promise Act will provide a pathway to citizenship for over 3 million DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients, other eligible immigrant youth and those who hold TPS (Temporary Protected Status). The Farm Workforce Modernization Act will offer a path to citizenship for millions of undocumented farmworkers and their families.

While these bills are not perfect and continue to exclude numerous immigrants who are racially profiled or who have been caught up in the criminal justice system, they are a step in the right direction.

Please join us in advocating for the passage of both the Dream and Promise Act (H.R.6) and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act (H.R. 1537).

Hello, my name is _____. I am a constituent and a person of faith. I am calling to ask Representative [name] to support the Dream and Promise Act and Farm Workforce Modernization Act. These important bills would create a pathway to citizenship for immigrant youth, TPS holders, and farmworkers. Both bills have passed the House in previous sessions of Congress with bipartisan support and would provide permanent relief to many immigrants who have lived and worked in our communities for years. Congress must pursue every possible avenue to deliver protections for immigrant communities without delay. Millions of undocumented immigrants live, work, and contribute to the United States every day. It is long past time for Congress to formally recognize immigrants with a path to the citizenship. That’s my goal and that is a goal supported by an overwhelming number of Americans.
