Our office closed last year on March 17th for two weeks which turned into three months. We learned how to work remotely on our computers, set up phones to forward to home or cell phones, and meet by Zoom for work and fun. Phone calls and notes provided other means of “visiting” when we could not visit in person or gather for meetings. There was even a car parade supporting our Sisters and all of the wonderful people who care for them!
As we lived into Covid-19, year 2, the very exciting event that happened in February and March was the vaccination of our Sisters and staff at Lafayette Redeemer, Artis Senior Residence, St. Joseph’s Manor, the Plaza and in Buffalo. We are so grateful for all those who made it possible for us to get the Covid vaccine! – scientists, researchers, pharmaceutical companies, government and corporate funding, doctors and nurses and health workers, and especially all those who administer and provide support services to the Grey Nuns.
Artis Senior Living visits can be in a Sister’s room now for the first time in many months. We hope that Redeemer Lafayette’s dining room will open soon, along with in-room visits to our Sisters in personal care and skilled care there and in St. Joseph’s Manor.
And, of course, Spring arrived, along with daylight savings time!
We accomplished our first large-scale Congregational Zoom in February and look forward to the next one on April 20th. It will be wonderful to connect with each other in the Philadelphia area AND to see and hear our Buffalo and Albion Sisters, too.
The Sisters at the Plaza began celebrating each other’s birthdays on Zoom. Though it’s nearly impossible to sing Happy Birthday together, we can at least share a prayer service and a blessing for the honored Sister and enjoy each other’s company.
Gradually we will return to some normalcy. We pray for and support, in whatever ways we can, all those who are still waiting to receive the vaccine.
