Sister Catherine McGady (Sister Joseph Veronica) Sixtieth Jubilee

Written on: April 22, 2021

Sister Catherine (Katie, as she is known) began life with her parents and her sister, Rosemary, in Philadelphia where she attended Cardinal Dougherty High School. For almost twenty years of her life as a Grey Nun, she taught in elementary schools in Strafford, Mahanoy City and King of Prussia, PA as well as in Buffalo, NY. In 1984, she began ministry with Catholic Social Services as a case worker, which brought her in contact with adults and children who were in transition and crisis. She transitioned to parish ministry as a pastoral assistant in both St. John the Evangelist Parish in Buffalo and at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Kenmore, NY.  Her greatest joy was as Associate Director of Pastoral Care at St. Catherine-St. Margaret Parish in Spring Lake, NJ, a charming town along the Jersey Coast. There she lived in an intercommunity setting with sisters from several congregations, where she made many new friends. At the time of her retirement, she returned to her beloved city of Philadelphia.

Thank you, for supporting me, toward this 60th Jubilee: God’s Providence, religious, loving mother, fun-loving musician father, courageous, resilient sister, talented, generous nephew, spunky, affectionate niece, precious great-nephew and great-nieces, longtime friends, dedicated teachers, Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, inter-community Sisters, and co-workers. Because of you, I continue to believe that God is Love. I pray we continue to be: positive, optimistic, affirming, forgiving, just, peaceful, and accepting.
