Marguerite’s Pantry News-Submitted by Sr. Anne Marie Beirne

Thanks to Debbie & Jack Adams and the Spanier Women (Christine, Michellemarie and Sr. Eileen) over 2,000 feminine hygiene products were purchased and repackaged for distribution at last Saturday’s Pantry event. So, in addition to baby products Marguerite’s Pantry had products for Moms!

We often forget how costly these items can be, especially for our growing number of poor who struggle each month just to feed their families. It is humbling to realize that something I recognize as a necessity is seen as a luxury to many of our neighbors.

This month we had another special treat for the folks at Marguerite’s Pantry—  400 boxes of Girl scout cookies were donated as part of the Gift of Caring program. You can read more details on the website girlscoutsnyc.org. Volunteers from the Ladies of Charity of St. John’s University stand by ready to serve.  What’s your favorite Girl Scout cookie?

Please remember St. Marguerite’s Pantry at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Queens, NY in your generosity.

Office Birthday Celebrations

Now that our work colleagues and Sisters have had the opportunity to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, we are resuming  one of our wonderful office traditions. Each month, on a designated day, everyone celebrating a Birthday that month is feted with cards, cake and sometimes ice-cream (or ice-cream cake!) during a lunch gathering. Resuming this tradition is just one more step to let us know that we are returning to the new normal. It’s a simple thing, really, but it means so much to share a special treat together and celebrate each other’s trip around the sun once again.

We hope that you and your families are also beginning to revive your traditions. These little steps remind us of all that we have gotten through over the past year. May we continue to share good health, good times and make good memories.

Birthday Celebration for Sr. Kay-Sr. Anne Marie Beirne

Sr. John Helen shared memories of their days together in Atlanta with Sr. Kay. We also sang Happy Birthday to Kay and she joined in with “and may the dear Lord bless me“.  We are so grateful that visiting is now possible at Artis!

Even if you’re vaccinated, it is still important to wear a mask, social distance and wash your hands. Show your love for others!

If you haven’t been vaccinated, we urge you to do so. The risks posed by vaccines are rare compared to the risks to yourself and others if you contract Covid-19.

Happy Birthday and Feast Day

Wishing the following Sisters very happy May Birthdays and Feast Days: Sr. Frances William Avery (8); Sr. Mary McMahon (29);  Sr. Mary Charlotte Barton (31– Feast Day).

Happy belated Birthday to Marianne Kitzmiller who celebrated her birthday April 26, but was inadvertently left off the list last month!

May the year ahead hold many blessings for each of you!
