Grey Day Celebration at Christ the King

Christ the King Parish school in Atlanta held their annual Mass in honor of St. Marguerite’s Feast Day. Sister Jean Liston gave a reflection on Marguerite’s life and opened a gift that was sent to her from the school. Sister Jean shared, “They are so wonderful as they never forget the Grey Nuns. The pastor gave a large donation to the congregation for the care of the elderly sisters.” You can watch the Grey Day video here.

Picnic at the Plaza-submitted by Sr. Eileen White

15 Plaza Sisters had hoagies in celebration of Marguerite’s feast day under the pavilion at 2350 Tremont.  We tried out the new picnic tables and enjoyed laughter and catch-up conversation.

Employee Anniversary Recognition

We honored two long-time employees with a little celebration on October 12. Maureen Goodall has been with the GNSH for 25 years and Chris Domzalski has been with us for 20 years.

Thank you to both of you for your outstanding service to the Congregation. We’d be lost without you!

Prayers Unite the World Anniversary

It is hard to believe, but we have been receiving prayer intentions from Prayers Unite the World for FIVE YEARS! There will be a celebration at Abp. Ryan high school on October 28. We were asked to submit a short video that you can view here. Sister Mary Elizabeth Looby and Maryellen Glackin attended the celebration.

Back to the Border– submitted by Sr. Diane Bardol

On Friday, September 24th,  Sister Bridget Connor and I departed for El Paso, Texas to work with Annunciation House, an organization that provides food, clothing, shelter and other basic necessities for asylum seekers while they must wait to hear from their sponsor.  Sister Bridget stayed to help for two weeks, followed by my sister, Mary Bardol. Three messages sent during that time are available on our website, here.

Thank you for your prayers and support which enabled us to make this journey and support our sisters and brothers so in need of a compassionate presence at the border.

GNSH Associate News

Grey Nun Associates and Sisters celebrated St. Marguerite’s Feast Day at the Associates’ monthly Zoom meeting on Oct. 9. We welcomed Pam Oakley as she made her first, one-year commitment as a GNSH Associate. Pam has been attending Associate Zoom gatherings over the past year. She looks forward to connecting with the Philadelphia Associates when in-person meetings are again possible. Special thanks to Maureen McElroy for orienting Pam to our Grey Nun heritage and the Associate relationship.

During the Zoom meeting, Associates renewed their commitments. Sr. Denise affirmed the Associates and shared that our Associates bring hope to the Grey Nuns as they carry on the legacy of St. Marguerite through their charism of kindness and compassion.

The Kodiak group is growing! Three people with longstanding ties to the GNSH are in the process of becoming Associates. We warmly welcome Brian Cleary, Colleen Helligso and Marylynn McFarland. Thank you Fru Finn, Kodiak Convener, for inviting and orienting these new friends.

The next Associates Zoom meeting is Saturday, November 13, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM. All are welcome; contact Angel Conicelli if you are not already receiving the Zoom links or would like more information about Associates.

Thank You Note

Dear Sisters, Associates, Staff Members, and Friends,

With an attitude of gratitude, I want to express my appreciation to each of you for your support throughout my cancer diagnosis and treatments. It has only been with your prayers that I have been able to keep a positive attitude.  Moreover, I thank those who have so graciously offered to drive me to my many appointments.

I was also overwhelmed by the number of greetings received for my birthday on October 7. There were so many cards, e-mails, e-cards, and even visits to wish me a happy birthday. Thank you all for being there for me.  God bless! Gratefully,  Sr. Anne Zita Crudden, GNSH

Celebrating You!

Wishing the following Sisters very happy birthdays in November: Sr. Maureen Quigley (2); Sr. Patricia Geary (6); Sr. Karen Marie Voltz (11); Sr. Joan Marie Daly (12); Sr. Anne Marie Beirne (30).May the Lord protect and bless  each of you in the year ahead!
