GNSHappenings- March 2023

Written on: March 30, 2023

GNSH Associate News: After the long Covid isolation, Buffalo and Philadelphia Associates have resumed in-person meetings. On Sat. March 4, Buffalo Associates and Sisters gathered at Sr. Joseph’s University Parish for a light lunch and faith sharing. Philly Associates and Sisters met at Lafayette Redeemer on March 18. Both groups shared on their experiences of Lent and inspiration found in the Lenten reflection booklet “Not By Bread Alone.”  All were very happy to reconnect with each other and both groups plan to continue meeting in person. Special thanks to Mary Jane Key, Buffalo Convener and Terry Beam, Philadelphia Associate. Monthly Zoom meetings for Associates from all areas will continue. Next dates are Sat. April 1 and Sat. May 13, 10:30-noon. Philly Associates will meet in person on Sat. May 6 from 11-1 at Lafayette Redeemer. All are welcome! Please contact Angel Conicelli, Director of Associates for more information.

Valentine’s Day: Yes, we know it is almost Easter, but somehow we never showed you the beautiful gift bags of sweet treats that were put together for the Sisters by their co-workers. Those at a distance received them by mail! Just a small reminder of how much we love and value the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart!

Happy Birthday! Wishing the following Sisters and colleagues a happy birthday in April: Sr. Mary Karen Kelly (10); Sr. Cecelia Cosgrove (14); Chris Domzalski (18); Sr. Maureen O’Hara (22); Marianne Kitzmiller (26); Sr. Mary Elizabeth Looby (26); Maureen Goodall (30); Sr. Kathleen Purser (30). May God’s love protect and bless each of you in the year ahead!

Lenten and Easter Reflections: There are Lenten reflections posted to our website. We will also be adding a few reflections during the Easter season. Our hope is that by sharing another person’s perspective on these readings, we have enhanced your prayer and reflection during this most holy time of the Church calendar. The most recent Lenten reflection can be found at this link. At the bottom of that page are links to the previous two reflections. The link for the Easter Reflection will be available after April 5.

Lenten Retreat Day: Nine Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart attended a Lenten Retreat Day on March 4th at the Sisters of Saint Joseph‘s Spirituality Center in Ocean Grove New Jersey. The theme of the day was “Crossings of the Heart” and the presenter was Sister Christine Koellhoffer, IHM. In her presentation, Sister Chris suggested “we are called this Lenten season to a greater spaciousness of heart and a deeper communion, with the crucified peoples of the world. We are invited to move forward to a new place of growth and a fresh worldview.” We looked at the Agony in the Garden, the persistence of the Canaanite Woman and the story of the Good Samaritan. She challenged us to see that the persistence of the Canaanite Woman helped Jesus to expand His understanding of His Mission and that the Good Samaritan was the only one willing to “cross to the other side” in an effort to assist his “neighbor.” We were invited to explore our own “Crossings of the Heart” and our call to create together a field of healing presence for all that is lost and broken in ourselves and in our beautiful yet wounded world.
