Sister Anne Marie Beirne- 60th Jubilee

Written on: April 13, 2023

Sister Anne Marie Beirne was born in Jackson Heights, NY and met the Grey Nuns at Blessed Sacrament School. In her early years as a Grey Nun, she taught junior high in Potsdam, and Eden, NY, among others.

Anne Marie received an MS in rehabilitation counseling from the University of Scranton and worked as an interventionist in alcoholism counseling at Mercy Medical Center. After attaining an MSW from Fordham University, she served as a case manager with the older population of Nassau County through Catholic Charities. One special aspect of her time there was supervision of case managers which put her in contact with young people at the beginning of their careers.

Anne Marie moved from New York to Philadelphia when she was elected to serve on the Leadership Council of the Grey Nuns. In addition, she has continued to manage the Food Pantry at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in East Elmhurst, NY, which serves the poor of the neighborhood and has grown during its more than twenty years in existence.

In my journey as a Grey Nun, I am struck by the many opportunities God has given me to serve and walk with God’s people in need. St. Marguerite has been my inspiration and guide when the road ahead seemed unclear. I reflected on her unfailing reliance on Divine Providence and know that as long as I am open, God will show me the way. In reflection on these 60 years, I am grateful for the example of my parents who, no matter what the hardships they faced, believed and witnessed to their children and grandchildren that God would be there. I continue to marvel at the Provident care of our loving God who has led me to this day and brought me in contact with wonderful people along the journey.
