GNSHappenings- April 2023

Written on: May 1, 2023

GNSH Associate News:  Kodiak Associates in Action! Our Kodiak Associates are expanding the circle of compassion as they live out the message of Sr. Joan Chittister’s recent book: The Time is Now: A Call to Uncommon Courage. Convener Fru Finn writes: “The Time Is Now” group have been meeting monthly since January. The group consists of the Associates and women from various denominations. Each month we discuss three chapters of the book and it has led to some wonderful conversations and actions! It’s fascinating to watch as the Spirit works in each of us. During Lent, we participated and helped organize the weekly soup suppers at the Presbyterian and Lutheran churches. One member who had been talking about going to El Paso and doing volunteer work with the immigrants took action and is there now! I am currently working at getting the Chamber of Commerce to ban weapon sales from our local crab festival. This little book has done amazing things and I am so grateful to be part of the journey!”
Monthly Zoom meetings for Associates from all areas will continue. Next dates are Sat. May 13 and Sat. June 10, 10:30-noon.
Philly Associates will meet in person on Sat. May 6 from 11-1 at Lafayette Redeemer.  All are welcome.  Please contact Angel Conicelli for more information beingcelestial@yahoo.com   215-208-5798.

Easter Brunch: On April 12, Sisters and Staff enjoyed an Easter Brunch at Lafayette Redeemer. It was wonderful to see so many of the Sisters together to celebrate. Even most of the personal care Sisters were able to be with us. More photos available on our Flickr page.

Pictured here,  Sr. Eileen White and Sr. Sally White (unrelated!)

Easter Season Reflections: The Easter Season Reflections are posted to our website. The most recent Lenten reflection can be found at this link. At the bottom of that page are links to the previous Easter reflections. A bonus reflection by Sr. Barbara Schiavoni is also available HERE.
Thank you to everyone who contributed a reflection during Lent and now the Easter Season. It is a blessing to hear from so many different voices and with differing styles. Our own prayer and reflection have been enhanced by the insights and challenges you have shared with us!

Laudato Si’ Action Platform Committee: We are now in the third quarter of our second year of participation in the Laudato Si’ Action Platform. We hope the journey so far has been enlightening, enriching and empowering!
In April we welcomed Suzette Munley who educated us and reinforced our belief that we are on the right track working to ELIMINATE plastic from our lives. The cost is just too big to ignore.
During her presentation, Suzette Munley shared a link for us, that was included in your LSAP “homework” mailing. This link will take you to a list of Action Items from Beyond Plastics,  on various ways to advocate for the elimination of plastics. Some you will recognize from things that have been suggested previously, but there are additional facts and more ways you can share.
We hope you are continuing with your reading and praying with Laudato Si’ Chapter 6, Sections IV, V and VI. We also encourage the viewing, or re-viewing of videos by Fr. Dan Horan in the Understanding Laudato Si’ series.

Celebrating You! Wishing the following Sister a happy birthday in May: Sister Mary McMahon (29)..May God’s love protect and bless you in the year ahead!
