An Easter Letter from our President Sister Denise Roche, GNSH

Written on: March 28, 2024

Dear Sisters, Associates, Colleagues, Friends,

With great anticipation, we look forward to the celebration of the events of Holy Week and the great joy of Easter. Each year our hearts and lives are in a different place as we hear, once again, the story of Jesus passion, suffering and death and then glorious Resurrection. Each year, we consider these episodes from a different perspective, depending on our own experiences during that past year.

What has happened in my life during the past year that has changed the perspective of the Easter message for me? What has changed around me that has made me realize more fully the pain and sorrow of the crucifixion or the patient suffering and longing during the day after? What do I hope for and plead for as I relive the exuberant joy of the Easter message?

Each year the readings of those days from the witnesses to the events do not change, but I do, we do. This year, do we feel the Easter story and join in the exuberance, saying yes, God has gifted us with renewed life and a spirit of joy and possibility, or do we feel the heaviness of the sorrow of Good Friday and long for the faith to know that, in spite of all else, God’s promise of new life endures and that we can trust that promise.

Wherever you are on the journey this year, please do not be overcome by sadness. Know with assurance that Jesus who lived and loved, healed and encouraged, suffered and died, truly ROSE again and is still with us and promises that we, too, will rise again.

All of our feelings and emotions, suffering and joys, are contained in the revelations of these holy three days. Let us bundle them up and place them with our love in the hands of our God who is with us and who loves us to death and beyond!

May your Easter be joyful and may you radiate joy to others through your life!

May your heart be peaceful and may you restore peace wherever you find it is needed!

May our prayers for one another provide us strength and encouragement!

May we always be messengers of God’s presence and love carrying forward the message of Easter!

Blessed Easter!  Rejoice – Alleluia!

Affectionately,

Sister Denise Roche, GNSH
President
