Letter to Families

June 13, 2019

Dear Grey Nun Academy Parents,

We write to you today with heavy hearts to share the news that this academic year just ending is the last for Grey Nun Academy.  The school’s Board of Trustees and the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart President and Leadership Council have just reached this decision, based on a comprehensive evaluation of declining enrollment trends and related financial data and information.  This, coupled with enrollment even lower than expected for fall 2019 make it evident that our beloved school is no longer financially viable. Though difficult to accept, this decision is final.

This decision is made with full recognition of the enormous efforts, selfless service and generous financial support from the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, school administration, faculty and staff, families and other charitable individual donors, and members of the Board of Trustees.

We sincerely wish there were another way forward; regrettably, there is not.

We know that for many of you this will come as a shock and we understand that the timing of the closure presents serious challenges for you as well as for our faculty and staff.  And we understand that your immediate concern will be to enroll your children in a school where they can thrive– a school where they can continue to develop intellectually, socially, and spiritually – as they have at GNA.  Please know that we will assist you in any way we can.

With the hope of making your task of selecting a new school less burdensome, we have planned two informational parent meetings.  We will share with you information about schools in our area as well as details on what we can do to assist you in identifying the school that best meet the needs of your children.  We hope you will be able to join us:

  • Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at 6:00 p.m., for Grades PreK through 3rd families in the Sacred Heart Chapel
  • Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at 6:00 p.m., for Grades 4th through 7th families in the Sacred Heart Chapel

This is a very painful time for anyone associated with our cherished Grey Nun Academy.  We ask for your patience and your prayers in this difficult time.

We thank you for your generous and loyal support.  You have given Grey Nun Academy the most generous gift of all in trusting us with the education of your children.  We are confident that they will have wonderful futures, and it saddens us deeply that Grey Nun Academy will not be a part of their lives in the years ahead.

In the peace of Christ, which surpasses all understanding,
